Part-Time

Posted: Nov 6, 2023

Application Deadline: Dec 30, 2023

Description

Ideal applicants are those who are looking for a church family and would like to apply and work here in the Grace and Peace's shelter ministry as part of our church family. The Shelter Volunteer Coordinator will be a part-time employee of the church (6+ hours weekly or 24+ hours monthly).

Our Volunteer Coordinator will be someone who loves Jesus, people, and mercy in a mostly residential urban context, and enjoys inviting others to serve as part of our well-established nightly winter shelter for homeless women—and who is comfortable with using computers and electronic media to help accomplish the work. The ideal candidate will have some urban ministry experience or diaconal experience in a church or parachurch ministry, may be interested in becoming a part of Grace & Peace Fellowship, and plans/hopes to be available for at least two winter seasons, through Spring, 2025, but not necessasrily working through the Spring and Summer.

Strong English communication, verbal and written, is a must. A good comfort level with managing online signups is also a must.

Job tasks and outline:

+Start later September 2023 or early October and continue work through later March 2024. (We are hoping for a person who will work this coming winter and return the following winter.)

+Work with Shelter Team Leader, and later, staff and volunteers, to learn the ministry and practice various roles, assume the volunteer management role, help with volunteer orientation, training and ongoing volunteer communication and support.

+Be the primary person who connects with and manages scheduling for returning and new Grace & Peace Winter Shelter evening and overnight shelter volunteers and shelter meal providers. Much of the work can be done anytime of day or evening, from your home if you wish, but sometimes work is needed in the afternoons if people need to cancel due to emergencies or illness.

+Communicate with and receive ongoing support and coaching from Shelter Team Leader in the daily and weekly work.

+Possibly be a sub for occasional times when a volunteer cancels. (Subbing is not required but we have found that most Volunteer Coordinators like to place themselves in the “sub” role sometimes.) Subbing for volunteers would be unpaid work, generally.

+Visits refrigerators ideally once weekly, to make decisions about leftovers, and discard or freeze food as needed.

+Manage, along with Team Leader, already-established SignUp Genius program for shelter workers.

+Participate in one or more fundraising events as time allows. (This is NOT primarily a fundraising job.)

+Assist with one or more mailings as time allows. (This is NOT primarily a secretarial/clerk job.)

+Bring to the table ideas and responses to learning that will help us improve our ministry ongoing.

This is a paid, part-time position. Hourly wage starts at $16 per hour and can be more according to experience.

A person can apply for both Shelter Staff and Volunteer Coordinator position if s/he so desires.

Salary: Hourly
