THE OPPORTUNITY

First Christian Church has been in existence since 1891, with an average Sunday worship attendance of 75-85 people every week. The church’s mission statement is to Proclaim Jesus Christ, Grow in Faith, and Share Life around the Gospel. FCC is a Biblically-based, elder-led congregation with deacons serving alongside, in accordance with the church constitution and by-laws. Although they are a non-denominational church, they don’t believe that God designed churches to function alone and are part of the Disciple Heritage Fellowship headquartered in Decatur, IL. With this Fellowship, they enjoy sharing resources and leadership development with other like-minded churches, while retaining individual autonomy as a local church.

Various ministries at FCC include small group Bible studies in members’ homes, children and adult Sunday school on Sunday, dedicated prayer events throughout the week, AA/NA sessions hosted in the church building, participation with a local Food Pantry, conducting weddings, funerals, and visitations. Previous pastors have enjoyed networking with the Ministerial Association, composed of other pastors in the area.

First Christian Church is currently seeking a Lead Pastor to shepherd the congregation with sound doctrine, and expositional preaching and to work alongside the elders and staff to promote a Gospel-centric culture in the life of the church.

THE COMMUNITY 

St. Francis, Kansas is in the northwest corner of Kansas, approximately 2.5 hours’ drive from Denver International Airport, has a population of approximately 1,200, and is surrounded by various communities with similar populations on the Kansas prairie. St. Francis is an agrarian-based community with conservative leanings. Hunting and fishing for the sports enthusiast and the nearby Republican River Walk and Pond, Motorcycle Museum, beautiful Riverside Recreation 9-hole golf course, and various other attractions provide plenty of amenities, as well as healthy-living options for all. A vibrant downtown community helps to make St. Francis a self-reliant, clean, and safe community to live in. The congregation at FCC consists of ages young and old. They are committed to serving the local community and civic organizations. The community includes various services such as a hospital, preschools and schools, assisted living and long-term care facilities, an aquatic park, and theater.

THE CANDIDATE

First Christian Church is looking for a full-time pastor who:

• Desires to be in small-town America and understands the town’s rural nature.
• Will continue the culture of expositional preaching, sound doctrine, and a high view of scripture over all of life and practice
• Can “wear many hats” in the pastor position at FCC
• Is committed to an elder-led congregation and working alongside them

THE QUALIFICATIONS

• 3-5 years of pastoral experience
• Higher education preferred, not necessary, but with a desire to further his education
• Counseling abilities preferred, not required
• Aligning with reformed preaching/teaching and philosophy/doctrine
