Pastoral Intern/Student Ministry

 

PURPOSE: 

 

The purpose of the intern program is to assist the candidate and presbytery in carrying out the program of the PCA requiring an “intern” year in addition to the normal seminary training prior to ordination to the Gospel ministry. The program provides the intern with practical ministry experience in a range of specialties while giving him an opportunity for mentorship by the pastoral staff.

 

DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Pastoral Intern shall be recommended by the Senior Minister, called by the Session, and primarily responsible for assisting in student ministry focused on 7th-12th graders and their families.

 

o  Participate in and teach in the Student Ministry Sunday school class and Wednesday night studies

o  Pursue and cultivate discipleship relationships with students in one-on-one and small group settings

o  Assist in planning and leading student ministry retreats in fall and spring

o  Accompany students to RYM conferences and/or mission trips in summer

o  Assist on the platform in morning and evening worship as assigned by the Senior Minister

 

The Pastoral Intern will also be expected to participate in intern development opportunities to help equip him for future ministry in a local church.

o  Attend at least one Session meeting and one Diaconate meeting per semester

o  Attend meetings of the ministry staff and Christian Education Committee as available

o  Be prepared for involvement in the ministry of the Word of God in every context

Part-time, exempt

Requirements


The intern should ordinarily take no more than twelve (12) semester hours of classroom activity without approval of the Senior Minister and Administrative Committee.
