Description
The Assistant Youth Director is a position for leadership, shepherding, and discipleship of the young men of our youth ministry. This position involves leading and training our youth ministry volunteers, developing relationships with the parents of Southwood, discipling our students, planning and coordinating youth events and retreats, and regularly praying for the students of High-Life, volunteers and the city of Huntsville.

Requirements
Principal Job Responsibilities
Building discipleship relationships with students
Helping lead our student leadership team (Crew)
Teaching in various youth and church contexts (Sunday school, Youth group, etc)
Partnering with and leading our adult volunteers
Praying for students, parents, volunteers, Southwood and our community
Planning, organizing and executing youth events, retreats, service, outreach, mission trips, etc. Coordinating and leading small groups for students
Personal and Spiritual development in conjunction with the Youth and Families Pastor and other staff
Attending Staff meetings
Leading and training Summer college interns
Qualities Required
A growing relationship with Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord
A love for the various people of God in Christ’s church
Commitment to the gospel as well as practical disciplines and lifestyle that pursues Christ
A heart for serving others and a teachable heart Passion for loving and caring for students particularly a heart for guy’s discipleship
A desire to build unity and teamwork among the Youth staff and greater church staff
A Heart for prayer in all aspects of personal and professional life
A personal desire for regular personal accountability with other men
A teachable heart for consistently growing in their competencies of practical ministry skills Willing to become a communing member of Southwood
Job Details
• Pursuing healthy relationships with the young men of the student ministry and the men who lead within the ministry. This will require off-hours meetings, attending student activities, etc.
• Teaching regularly including Sunday School, Youth Group(High-Life and Jr. High-Life), training etc. This will also require a participation in reading, evaluating and choosing curriculum.
• Organizing Retreats for both High School and Middle School Students to engage in opportunities to get out of Huntsville and grow in their relationship with God.
• Meeting with whole Youth Staff in order to grow through practical and spiritual training as well as plan and work in collaborative ways to execute the mission of the youth ministry.
• Staff Meeting attendance: Weekly ministry staff meetings, Youth ministry team meetings, and as needed session meetings.
Additional Note: This is a ministry leadership role that has potential for development and professional growth beyond just the things mentioned. We hope to support whoever fills this role to pursue personal and professional development through mentorship, networking, conferences, and ongoing training through seminary and other learning opportunities.
