Description
The Assistant Pastor for City Groups and Outreach will provide leadership for Christ Community Church (CCC) city groups. City groups exist as the everyday church and another front door to the church, so the role of this Assistant Pastor is vital to the ministry of CCC as we aim to ensure that individuals' experience of the church extends beyond worship services and into real relationships and welcome. In addition to the oversight of city groups, this Assistant Pastor will direct and develop CCC’s ministry presence in downtown Fayetteville and our relationships with our local mission partners. Specific job duties include, but are not limited to, the responsibility to:
- Develop the existing CCC city group model into a structure that supports connection and welcome for 500-600 adults.
- Direct the care and discipleship aspects (everyday church) of city groups, including equipping leaders, recommending content, and coaching leaders as they care for their members and serve the city.
- Increase effectiveness in city groups serving as another front door to the church by evaluating, recommending and implementing adjustments to city group structure so that city groups can easily invite and include friends and neighbors who are not part of CCC or any church.
- Serve as the lead point of contact for the church on city groups–casting clear vision on the why, what, and how of city groups, and how city groups fit into the discipleship of church members.
- Build a model of city group registration and connection for individuals and leaders that is both intentional and user friendly.
- Recruit, care for and equip city group leaders in line with the ministry aims and values of CCC:
- Meet regularly with city group leaders (currently 15) and attend city group meetings as needed, providing encouragement and tangible assistance in carrying out the aims of city groups in keeping with the unique gifts and passions of the leaders.
- Provide group communication and equipping to city group leaders, including developing needed resources and holding trainings.
- Identify and recruit future city group leaders, creating a clear outline of needed qualities and leadership responsibilities, and ensuring that the city group ministry keeps pace with the growth of the church.
- Maintain a consistent communication rhythm with city group leaders over text and email to keep them updated on church vision and events and to hear ideas and concerns from them.
- Lead CCC’s efforts of connection and outreach into the city of Fayetteville
- Oversee welcome for visitors at Sunday morning worship service, directing a team of volunteers and coordinating follow-up with visitors via staff and volunteer efforts.
- Consider and direct ways in which CCC could offer a greater presence on the downtown square in line with church mission, vision and values.
- Build relationships with CCC local ministry partners, including RUF, Potter’s House and 99 Balloons, and connect CCC members with opportunities to serve these partner organizations.
- Provide pastoral leadership to the body of CCC.
- Preach 4-8 times/year and provide teaching in other venues, including adult seminars and children’s and student ministry settings, as needed.
- In coordination with Senior Pastor and Session members, provide care and discipleship to church members in uniquely stressful situations, including times of mourning and conflict.
- Speak into the overall direction and strategy of Christ Community Church, including participating in weekly sermon discussion.
- Consistently assist in leading liturgy and administering the sacraments during worship services.
- Participate as a member of the CCC staff.
- Attend weekly CCC staff meetings, monthly staff meetings, quarterly Discover Seminars and annual staff retreats.
- Participate in conversations with CCC staff and volunteers regarding various areas of the church (e.g. volunteer recruitment and care, church communication, children’s and student ministry needs, etc.)
- Report weekly to the Director of Ministry Operations, to identify highest priorities and to ensure cohesion between church efforts in all areas.
- Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor to coordinate pastoral care of church members.
- Respond within 24 hours to any email or text related to CCC.
