Job Summary:
The position assists with all programs related to community formation at Redeemer Downtown. The intern will oversee some community groups; recruit and build relationships with group leaders; and help with the planning and execution of classes, church-wide socials, and retreats. They will also maintain a visible welcoming presence at worship services and other church events. A special emphasis of this role will be ministering to young adults in New York City and understanding their needs. This position offers opportunities for professional development in providing pastoral care, preparing content, and public speaking/teaching.
Church-wide Community-building Tasks
- Attend Monday staff meetings and Community Life strategic/tactical meetings
- Assist in the planning and execution of large-scale events such as picnics, socials, and the church-wide spring retreat
- Provide a hospitable presence before, during, and after worship services (e.g., pre-service greeting and post-service welcome table)
- Meet newcomers for coffee 1:1
- Assist in planning and teaching community-building events such as newcomer’s lunch, membership class, and seminars or workshops that have a community focus
- Work with congregants on Local Gatherings and provide TouchPoint administration
- Give special attention and support to any community-building needs that arise out of the 5 p.m. service (such as the post-coffee-hour dinners)
Community Group–specific Tasks
- Lead a weekly Community Group
- Edit and write Community Group discussion guides
- Recruit new group leaders and hosts
- Help plan and teach leader trainings 3-4 times a year
- Oversee 8-10 Community Groups by visiting each group at least once a semester
- Regularly pray for the leaders who are under your care and check in every month
- Meet your leaders every few months (or as needed) to support their needs, to coach them in their leadership, and to advise them in the pastoral care of their members
- Recruit people to give testimonies or worship service Q&As
- Assist in the planning and execution of a winter leaders’ retreat

Requirements
Qualifications
- A teachable, mature Christian who demonstrates Redeemer Downtown’s vision and values
- Heart for New York City
- Member of Redeemer Downtown (or willing to join)
- Small group leadership experience
- Organizational and administrative skills
- Deft writer and communicator
- College degree, theological education a plus
- Availability on evenings and weekends (including at least one Sunday service per week)

The position is based on a 1-year contract, which can be extended or transitioned to a full-time position based on performance and staffing needs.
