YOUTH & FAMILY PASTOR - JOB DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE: The Youth & Family Pastor’s (YFP) calling is to be the visionary and administrative leader among the volunteer leaders of the Youth Ministry of Faith Covenant Church: with the goal of assisting parents in the spiritual discipleship (growth in grace) of the youth of the Church. He also creates opportunities to encourage family connections within the FCC community.
COMPENSATION: The total compensation for this position ranges from $90,000 to $120,000, depending on experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Divinity. If a candidate is not yet ordained, he must be under care and pursue ordination during the first year of ministry.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job description provides a picture of Youth & Faith ministry at Faith Covenant Church. The pastor filling this role is encouraged to creatively pursue our shared ministry goals through new ideas and programs, and the frequency of some of the responsibilities listed below may change as his new emphases are implemented.
A. Administration and Leadership
- Weekly Meetings: The YFP plans, prepares and leads weekly events for middle schoolers and High Schoolers. (Weekly during school year; every other week in the summer).
- Volunteer Leader Recruitment and Development: Works to build a team of at least 1 male & 1 female volunteer leader per 20 kids in both Jr & Sr High. Meets regularly (at least monthly) with Vols for encouragement, support and discipleship.
- Vacation Bible School: Recruits VBS director, supports planning & prep. Available to VBS director during VBS times, provides pastoral oversight for VBS, works to connect visitors, neighbors into Church.
- Youth Ministry Advisory Board: Recruits a board consisting of at least 1 elder and 4 parent reps. Interacts quarterly with board to gain feedback, discuss future plans, etc….
- Communication: Develops a robust plan for communication with parents and teens. Communications should include elements of Youth Director’s goals and vision as well as program details and may utilize parent info meetings, emails, phone calls, video group chats…etc.
B. Teaching and Preaching
- Sunday School: The YFP strategically plans for Sunday School Curriculum that compliments Youth ministry goals and objectives. Regularly teaching Sunday school Sr High classes, or occasionally an adult (family oriented) elective.
- Preaching: In addition to weekly teaching at youth meetings and regular Sunday School teaching, the YFP may also be asked to preach occasionally at the Sunday morning or evening services. Currently once per quarter.
C. Outreach and Assimilation
- Outreach & Assimilation: The YFP will work to form an Outreach and Assimilation Committee whose focus is to implement ways in which to attract visitors to Faith Covenant, into membership, and integration into ministry. The OAC will meet at least quarterly to discuss actions for implementation.
- Youth Mission Trips: The YFP will plan, prepare and lead 1 youth mission trip during the summer months.
D. Counseling & Care
- Relationships with Youth. Engages in consistent conversation with each regular participant in FCC youth ministries. Visits students at school or sporting events/recitals. Will be able to account for at least one personal contact (personal conversation, visit, event attendance, etc.) with each regular participant each quarter. This duty may be delegated to support volunteers as the youth ministry grows beyond 20 students.
- Summer Events: Plans, prepares and holds at least 2 events/month for Sr High. (Same for Jr High). These will occur on alternate weeks from regular summer meetings.
Youth Community Service: Coordinates and highlights community service opportunities, connects youth with needs (coordinates with Deacons and Women’s Mercy ministries), leads quarterly community service projects for Youth.
Salary: $60K-$89K
