Description


Chapel Presbyterian Church, a growing and vibrant PCA church averaging approximately 250 in worship each Lord’s Day, seeks an Assistant Pastor of Adult Discipleship. Chapel PCA is located in Brighton Township, which is strategically located near the following: 15 minutes from Geneva College (a Reformed Christian College of approximately 1400 students), 40 minutes north of Pittsburgh (PA), 90 minutes southeast of Cleveland (OH), and 10 minutes from the county seat of Beaver (PA). Multiple sister PCA churches are located within 30 minutes of Chapel.

Requirements


1. Primary Responsibilities:


Adult Sunday School. 

• Develop--with the Session and the Senior Pastor--a rotation of topics for Adult Sunday School for the purpose of providing a well-rounded curriculum for adults.  

• Maintain a schedule of elective Adult Sunday School classes four to six months in advance.

• Recruit, Train, and Encourage a cadre of capable Adult Sunday School teachers. 

• Serve as one of the regular teachers in Adult Sunday School.  


Adult Small Groups and Bible Studies.  

• Develop and Supervise the implementation of--with the Session and the Senior Pastor--a philosophy of Small Groups suitable to our Reformed distinctives and the size of our church.  

• Recruit, Train, and Encourage Small Group leaders. 

• Oversee and Recommend resources for the already existing Men’s and Women’s Bible Study groups.  


Men’s and Women’s Ministries. 

• Participate as an ex officio member of the Women’s Ministry Leadership Team to encourage its leadership and to assist with recommendations for studies and activities. 

• Participate as a full-member of the Men’s Ministry Leadership Team to encourage its leadership and to assist with recommendations for studies and activities.  


Evangelism and Outreach. 

• Develop and Supervise the implementation of--with the Session and the Senior Pastor and the already existing Outreach Committee--a comprehensive philosophy of “Evangelism and Outreach” that will include training Chapel members for personal evangelism as well as the organization of outreach events.  


College Ministry.  

• Participate as a member of the College Student Ministry Team. 

• Actively Seek opportunities to meet with and disciple college students, including facilitating them becoming Associate Members of Chapel PCA. 

• Participate in the weekly “Lunch at Geneva” activity.  


Young Adults Ministry (AKA “412”). 

• Meet regularly with the leadership of the Young Adult Ministry to encourage and equip.  


2. Facilitate Communication:

• Serve as the point of contact between the following ministries of Chapel PCA and the Session by frequently attending their meetings and interfacing with the leadership of these ministries: Fellowship Committee, Helping Hands, Helping Hearts, and Young at Heart.

• Request that the ministries listed above provide at least a quarterly ministry report, in writing, to the Session.


3. Shepherding:

• Assist the Senior Pastor in shepherding the Elders and Deacons.

• Assist the Senior Pastor in overseeing the Shepherding Elders’ work with their assigned members.  


4. Presbytery Involvement: 

• Participate in presbytery committee work and general assembly activities in consultation with the Senior Pastor.

• Participate in presbytery-wide activities, including Super Summer Break and Snow Camp. 


5. Worship, Preaching, and Teaching:

• Assist the Senior Pastor with the worship service each Lord’s Day.

• Preach on the Lord’s Day when the Senior Pastor is away.

6. Other:

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor and/or the Session. 


7. Accountability:  

• The Assistant Pastor of Adult Discipleship is Directly Supervised by the Senior Pastor. 

• Provide a written monthly report of activities to the Session. 

• Participate in weekly staff meetings led by the Senior Pastor and monthly Session meetings.
