West Hopewell Presbyterian Church (WHPC) in Hopewell, Virginia is seeking a solo pastor that is “a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5) to encourage our elders and joining them in shepherding our congregation.

Requirements
WHPC is seeking a people-oriented relationally strong pastor who will lead us forward in our mission and vision. The pastor should be willing to live in or near Hopewell. They should maintain a disciplined personal devotional routine, well-grounded in Reformed theology, and able to communicate freely with people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
Other job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Preach a minimum of 47 Sundays a year.
· Lead joint officers’ meetings monthly.
· Conduct leadership training annually.
· Teach new members class as required.
· Be available for emergency and hospital visitation.
· Be available for pastoral counseling by appointment.
· Have posted open office hours for drop in visits.
· Evangelism.
· Congregational fellowship.
· Diaconal Ministries.
· Administrative Leadership.
· Mission Beyond Local Community.

Based on a recent survey of the congregation, his strengths should include:
· PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD: The word of God is preached with urgency and conviction, bringing it to bear on the changing needs of individuals, the community, and the world. High priority of the pastor’s time is placed on sermon preparation.
· Congregational VISITATION: Church officers and pastor develop and carry out systematic plan for visitation of the entire congregation with special attention to prospective members and those with special needs.
· SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT OF MEMEBERS: Pastor shares members’ struggles regarding the Christian faith, with opportunity provided for individuals and groups to reflect on beliefs, concerns, doubts regarding Christian understanding of the spiritual dimensions of life.
· WORSHIP LEADERSHIP: Pastor and Session work together to develop a rich worship life, educating the congregation of meaningful participation.
· TEACHING RESPONSIBILITY: Pastor accepts an active teaching role, interpreting and teaching Scriptures, theological concepts, history of the Church and current events; provided instruction for Church Officers; educational leaders; and confirms new members.
· CONGREGATIONAL COMMUNICATION: Two-way communication encouraged, information gathered and shared that will assist problem solving and decision making; varying opinions elicited, and all encouraged to listen to opposing points of view.
