Position Description: Worship Director


Overview: HCC’s Worship Director is responsible for leading the music ministries of Homewood Community Church. This includes curating music for the congregation, vocalists and instrumentalists; leading the music for weekly worship services and other occasional events; mentoring and developing worship volunteers and leaders; coordinating with the student ministry to provide training and mentoring for student worship leaders; and providing administrative oversight for the entire music ministry. 


1. Curate and lead music for congregation, choirs, vocalists and instrumentalists for all worship services. 


a) In collaboration with pastors, choose worship songs and hymns that are God-and-gospel-centered, congregationally appropriate and accessible, and express the range of human experience before God (praise, petition, confession, lament, etc).

b) Plan and facilitate occasional special worship services (e.g. hymn sings, worship nights, lessons and carols, etc.) as opportunities arise. 

c) Introduce new songs (hymns and contemporary) on a regular cadence.

d) Spend time in spiritual and practical preparation for leading weekly worship.


2. Recruit, develop, and mentor participants in the music ministry, including current/future music ministry volunteers and future worship leaders.


a) Establish, coordinate, and lead the worship team, and occasional choirs.

b) Recruit worship team volunteers (musicians/AV/setup) from the congregation. 

c) Schedule worship teams and direct worship practices.


3. Provide leadership, coordination and administration for the music ministry. 


a) Participate in bi-monthly HCC staff meetings.

b) Meet quarterly with the Worship Committee for planning and review. 

c) Oversee music ministry budget and expenditures. 

d) Order music and other music ministry materials as needed. 

e) Coordinate the A/V team to create slides and maintain worship equipment.

h) Oversee and approve stage organization for worship services.

i) Provide an annual budget with needs and expectations for the upcoming fiscal year



Note: Depending on the candidate's qualifications, availability, and the Lord's good providence, this may be classified as either a part-time or full-time position, at the discretion of the session of Homewood Community Church.

Requirements



  • The candidate’s leadership of corporate worship must flow from a living and abiding relationship with Christ and a strong desire and capability of inviting God’s people into worship.
  • The candidate’s heart must align with the mission of Homewood Community Church: love of God, love of neighbor, and love of place. 
  • The candidate must be musically capable (piano and/or guitar) to lead traditional and modern worship music and hymns. 
  • Music background by education or experience and teaching ability sufficient to coach and guide all the members of the music ministry. 
  • Must be committed to Reformed Theology. 
  • Must demonstrate the gift to effectively lead and engage others in worship; strong leadership, organizational and communication skills required to effectively collaborate with staff, worship team members, and other ministries such as youth, children’s, etc. 
  • Strong preference for a demonstrated ability to develop and grow a culture of spiritual formation and direction within a worship team.
  • The candidate must be diplomatic, self-disciplined, and enthusiastic.
