Description
The Pastoral Intern Program (PIP) is a development oriented program, with the intent of
developing a pastoral heart and approach to ministry. The candidate will operate as a part of the Christ
Church ministry staff. By which they will be practicing ministry gifts as they seek to engage
with Christ Church and the broader community in Grand Rapids. The Pastoral Intern
will report directly to Associate Pastor Addison Hawkins as well as members of the session
and the PIP leadership team. The Pastoral Intern will work with the existing church staff and
other members of the ministry team in carrying out the vision, mission, strategy and values
of Christ Church.
Key Responsibilities (full time position; 40+ hrs/week)
Church Ministry (35 hrs/week)
1. Areas of concentration will include: Theology, Character, Teaching, Preaching,
Praying, Hospital Visitations, Sacraments, Weddings, Funerals, Elder Meetings,
Deacon Meetings, Elder Visits, Counseling, Evangelism.
2. Reading, papers, and memory work as assigned by the PIP Leadership Team.
3. Attendance at all prayer meetings.
4. Assist in the execution of college ministry events.
5. Teaching rotation in Children's Ministry.
6. Teaching rotation in Adult Ed. and/or C-Groups.
7. Attendance at all Session, diaconate and Presbytery meetings.
8. Attendance at weekly church staff meetings.
9. Worship at Christ Church.
10. Practical ministry training in Preaching, Administration, Leading Meetings,
Managing people (staff, leaders, session) and conducting Funerals/Weddings.
Preparation for Further Ministry (5 hrs/week)
1. Engage in learning, reading and study assignments.
2. Maintain a monthly Intern Report.
3. Attend to personal holiness and character.
The compensation package will consist of funds raised by the ministry staff position as well
as some Christ Church support. What is accounted below is a total breakdown and could
vary depending on the life stage of the individuals considered.
Compensation Package for Pastoral Intern
Salary: $24,000 - $33,600
- CC contribution: $1000/month or $12,000
- Support : 1 $1000 - $1800/month
- FICA: $ 1,530
- Insurance: (through the marketplace) $ 7,000
- Professional Expenses: (in the budget) $ 800

Requirements
● We are looking for someone who is post seminary or just graduating.
● This internship does not have a call, hence the title of "resident/internship", we just want to be clear about that up front.
● There is some support raising involved, see final page.
● Finally, we are hoping to find someone who feels a call to the midwest. We would love for them to stick around the Great Lakes Presbytery, in either a church planting, staff at a church, campus ministry, etc.
