Job Description – Pastor/Teaching Elder at Summit Presbyterian Church The pastor of Summit Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) will be primarily responsible for leading the congregation spiritually, preaching the Gospel based on a strong commitment to biblical authority, providing pastoral care, overseeing church operations in collaboration with the church session, and actively engaging in outreach efforts. While also adhering to the theological beliefs of the EPC denomination; key duties include preaching, teaching, administering sacraments, counseling, leading worship services, and fostering growth within the congregation. Role Description: This is a full-time on-site role for a Family Pastor at Summit EPC. Key Responsibilities: • Preaching and Teaching: Delivering bible-based sermons, teaching Sunday School or Bible studies, and providing theological instruction to the congregation. • Pastoral Care: Offering spiritual guidance and support to church members through counseling, visiting the sick and bereaved, and providing care during times of crisis. Have a shepherd’s heart for pastoral care and a willingness and ability to engage and successfully communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds. Collaborate with other local Christian ministries as appropriate. • Worship Leadership: Leading worship services, including prayer, hymns, and the administration of communion, baptism, funerals, and weddings. Fostering spiritual development through generations. • Church Leadership: Collaborate with staff and lay leadership as a team player to help foster a supportive and encouraging work community. Participate in staff and session meetings. Working with the church session (governing board) to set church vision, make strategic decisions, and oversee church operations. Participate in the EPC Presbytery of the Alleghenies and the Next Gen Ministry networks at the presbytery and national level. • Outreach and Evangelism: Actively participates in community outreach initiatives, assists at HIS Kids Christian School as needed, shares the Gospel with non-believers, and leads efforts to attract new members to the church. Responsible for providing pastoral care and promoting Christ within the community. • Leadership Development: Mentoring and equipping lay leaders within the congregation to serve in various ministry roles. Collaborate with staff and lay leadership as a team player to help foster a supportive and encouraging work community. Participate in staff and session meetings. • Youth Ministry: Collaborate with all who oversee and participate in the Youth Ministry Teams. Qualifications: • Theological Alignment: Strong commitment to the doctrines of the EPC, including the Bible as the sole authority, the Trinity, and the Gospel message. • Ordination: Ordained as a Teaching Elder with ordination aligned with the EPC. • Education: Master of Divinity degree from an accredited seminary. • Preaching Ability: Excellent communication skills, ability to preach clearly and engagingly from the Bible. • Pastoral Skills: Proven ability to provide pastoral care, counseling, and spiritual guidance. • Leadership Qualities: Demonstrates leadership skills, ability to work effectively with a team, and vision for church growth, ministries, and outreaches. Equip and empower lay leaders and volunteers for ministry, fostering a culture of fruitful discipleship and service with the church community, and our outreach missions. • Clearances: Must have PA Child Abuse clearances, as well as FBI Fingerprinting and a Criminal Record Check.
