Description
Purpose Statement: This Pastor will oversee and seek to develop, implement, and provide support for the various ministries of GCPC, including but not limited to our ministry to Youth and Families, our Christian Education Ministry, our ministry to the men and women of the church, our Missions of Grace team, VBS program, etc.
This man will also be an active participant on Sunday morning in the worship service, preaching when necessary and participate in leading the worship service. He will also be involved in writing the worship service each week.
The Pastor will be the primary person for members and ministry leads of GCPC to communicate and coordinate events for our church. Announcements, Remind notification, Church calendar coordination, building use coordination, website updates will fall to this man.
Objective: To assist, guide and encourage the overall ministries of GCPC and those involved.
A. Shepherding The heart (and burden) of every minister’s call is to be a shepherd to the people God has called him to serve. The Pastor will be a shepherd who will be assigned members of GCPC to care for. But his responsibility, with the Senior Pastor, will be to be a shepherd of the members of GCPC.
B. Discipleship The Pastor will determine and provide regular, careful, and doctrinally sound instruction in the Scriptures for those under his care, with an emphasis to those leading various ministries in Christian Ed and Youth and Family.
C. Teaching The Pastor will, under the oversight of the Session, provide proposals of what books of the Bible will be taught in Adult Sunday School each semester/year and he will coordinate which Ruling Elders will teach and when. The Pastor will also teach in adult Sunday School regularly.
D. Pulpit Ministry As mentioned above, the Pastor will preach when the Senior Pastor is out and at other times determined by the Senior Pastor and approved by the Session. The Pastor will also help determine “the diet” of what will be preached on Sunday mornings. The practice at GCPC has to provide the Session a proposed schedule of what books will be preached through for the next 10 years. The Pastor will assist the Senior Pastor in providing the plan to the Session.
Expectations: The ministry of the Pastor will be a hands-on, deeply relational, and practical ministry. The opportunities for discipleship, leadership development, pastoral counseling and shepherding are limitless. Through the leadership and practical ministry of the Pastor, the members of GCPC will be given the opportunity to grow in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ through person-to-person ministry and the pursuit of personal holiness.
Lines of Authority: The Pastor, depending on years of experience and his prior ordination will be called as either as an Assistant pastor and under authority of the Session of GCPC, or as an Associate pastor and will be a member of the Session. Regardless of the call, the pastor will report directly to the Senior Pastor. The Pastor will meet regularly and intentionally with the Senior Pastor for supervision/direction, training, and mutual encouragement in ministry.
