Job Title: Worship Leader

Department: Non-Pastoral Employee

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Classification: Part-time (15-20 hours/week), non-exempt (salaried)

Start Date: August 2025


Church Description:

Faith Presbyterian Church (PCA) is a community of believers in Watkinsville, GA that exists to make a kingdom impact for Jesus Christ in the world through the power of the Gospel, for the glory of God. We are a medium-sized congregation with an average attendance of 275, with two Sunday morning worship services at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM.


Overall Responsibility:

Under supervision of the Senior Pastor and oversight from the Session and Worship Committee, the Worship Leader is responsible for organizing and developing the church’s music ministry using a Biblical and Reformed approach to worship and leading the Worship Team. Our Worship Team includes the Worship Leader, Pianist, and volunteer musicians. Faith has a blended style of music that includes traditional and modern hymns and contemporary praise songs. Our desire is to worship God in a manner that is faithful to the Scriptures, honoring to God, and engaging to the entire person in an edifying way. The Worship Leader should play guitar and/or piano, sing, lead music, and be comfortable with our style of worship. The primary focus of the Worship Leader is development and oversight of Biblical, joyful, robust and excellent music for Sunday worship and special events.


Essential Functions:

  • Oversee all musical aspects of the weekly Sunday worship service:
  • Select and arrange weekly worship sets - typically four songs per service in concert with pastors  
  • Approach the worship of God in a way that is culturally relevant, yet sensitive to the Reformed theological tradition
  • Direct music in weekly corporate worship
  • Coordinate the performance of this music
  • Encourage congregational singing
  • Maintain consistent and timely communication with pastoral staff and Worship Team
  • Manage Worship Team
  • Oversee, fill, and train a team of music volunteers, including sound board operators, video production volunteers, and mentor them as they serve through these gifts
  • Schedule all volunteers serving in the areas of worship and A/V
  • Proactively recruit and develop congregational members for accompaniment
  • Organize and lead efficient weekly rehearsals of vocalists and musician
  • Periodically conduct training events to deepen the leadership abilities of worship team members
  • Develop and schedule special music opportunities, including soloists and children groups
  • Prepare and print the weekly worship bulletin
  • Lead the church in worship for special programs such as funerals, children’s programs, the Fall Retreat, and/or seasonal services such as Good Friday and Christmas Eve
  • Maintain music library and inventory of all musical equipment and instruments, working with Facilities Manager and Administrative Assistant to schedule repair and tuning as needed
  • Perform related administrative and technical duties, including overseeing sound system, copyright compliance, etc.
  • Periodic attendance at weekly staff meetings is an important part of the role
  • Provide a qualified substitute for any services or practices when unavailable
  • Periodically attend professional development seminars


Education/Experience:

This role is ideal for someone with prior experience in leading a church musically and a high degree of proficiency in an instrument sufficient to lead a music team (acoustic guitar is preferred, though not mandatory), as well as being gifted vocally.


Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This job operates in a professional, indoor environment and is primarily in the sanctuary. This role routinely uses standard musical equipment such as amplifiers, microphones, speakers, and sound boards. Physical demand level is medium as it requires standing and moving instruments and equipment with occasional lifting, bending, etc.  


Travel:

Minimal travel is expected for this position.

  • Strong leadership skills including public speaking, organizing teams, and strategic planning.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact and build relationships with all levels of contacts from leadership, worship team, members, attendees, visitors, staff, etc.
  • Self-motivated and able to function independently with minimal supervision while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other staff and ministries.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with an upbeat, flexible, and positive attitude.
