Intown is a growing, diverse congregation located inside the perimeter of Atlanta (I-285), near Emory University and the Center for Disease Control. Intown’s mission is to be a congregation that is changed by grace, known in community, and sent to restore our community and world.
We are eager to find an individual who connects with that mission to join our NextGen team as our Children’s Ministry Director (CMD). This will involve lovingly ministering to our current thriving children’s ministry as well as equipping our church to reach new families as God continues to stretch our boundaries.
The CMD reports to and works in close collaboration with the Pastor for Students and Families as a leading member of the NextGen team, a group of leaders including staff (Youth Ministry Director, Nursery Coordinator, etc.), and the volunteers in charge of our tween and young adult ministries. Additionally, this role will involve participation in our wider Ministry team, a group including our pastors and executive director, as a representative and advocate for Intown’s children, families, and volunteers .
The CMD serves as the lead visionary and administrative manager for Intown’s existing children’s ministry of over 120 children and their families, paid staff and volunteers. The CMD will be expected to:
- Implement Intown’s mission, vision, and values at all ministry levels (including outreach, and discipleship, curriculum choice and composition, budgeting and resource management, programming, policy enforcement, etc.)
- Serve as the lead shepherding presence to children at Intown, embodying joy and wonder in introducing children to Jesus and modeling this for others
- Know each aspect of Intown’s Children’s Ministry in order to serve where needed, train others, and shape the ministry as needs evolve including setting growth goals and establishing a healthy ministry culture.
- Advocate for demographics needing special care in the Children’s Ministry including international families and English Language Learners, children with disabilities, foster care and adoptive families, and those new to Christianity
Salary: $60K-$89K
Requirements
- Knowledge of age-appropriate educational practices and theological/biblical truth, and the ability to implement such knowledge through teaching, leadership training, selecting curricula, and event planning
- Effective communication and teaching that sparks wonder and introduces accessible truths to children, encourages and excites parents and staff, all using various modes (social media, writing, instruction, counseling)
- Anticipates and plans for ministry needs of a growing church including potential multiple services
- Ability to offer spiritual/emotional care and counsel for children, parents, and staff/volunteers
- Gifted administrative and management skills including being able to lead multiple employees and volunteers, manage curricula, plan events, set and implement policies, organize physical supplies and databases, etc.
Education: child development or psychology, Christian ministry, education, or similar
Experience: 3+ years in children’s ministry, education, or church leadership
Passion for intergenerational ministry to children and families as a component of the church’s wider mission
Commitment to following and teaching the doctrinal commitments of Intown Community Church and the Presbyterian Church in America (including becoming a member of Intown)
