Description

STUDENT MINISTRY DIRECTOR- Grace Church of Marin

Grace Church of Marin is seeking a full-time director for our middle and high school student ministries. Marin County is across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco and is a place of exceptional beauty.  Our church was founded in 2006 and exists to proclaim the good news of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection and to invite this community to taste and see that the Lord is good.  This is a foreign concept to most of the teens who live here.  It is a community focused on performance and largely unfamiliar with the grace that Jesus offers.  We want to be a safe and inviting place to ask questions, but also one that challenges teens to seek Him and grow in their faith.

Our church serves a congregation of approximately 200.  We meet in the Student Center of a community college located in the central part of the county.  Our teen ministry serves approximately 15 high schoolers and 20 middle schoolers. As Student Ministry Director, your role would be to come alongside and equip these teens to grow in their faith and build relationships that expand the kingdom of God.

THIS ROLE INCLUDES...

  • FOSTERING MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS with individual teens, providing personal support and spiritual guidance during the transitional period between childhood and adulthood.
  • PLANNING AND EXECUTING REGULAR GROUP ACTIVITIES, including Sunday School, Bible studies, events and outings, community service projects, and retreats.
  • BUILDING GOSPEL COMMUNITY, creating a positive group culture among teens who care for one another and encourage one another to live a gospel-centered life—at home, at school, and beyond.
  • SUPPORTING FAMILIES by building friendships with parents, celebrating special occasions, attending student events, engaging with the local culture, and connecting families with one another.
  • GROWING A VOLUNTEER TEAM, recruiting, cultivating, and training a community of adults to support our teens. Fostering personal relationships, managing collaboration, and ensuring teen safety.
  • CONNECTING WITH UNCHURCHED TEENS and creating authentic spaces for spiritual questioning, bridging the existing ministry with teens and parents who do not regularly attend.
  • MANAGING COMMUNICATIONS, both in-person and online, that promote upcoming events and clearly convey the organization’s mission, vision, and values to teens and parents.
  • WORKING WITH CHURCH LEADERSHIP to establish program direction and assess progress, seeking regular feedback from parents, teens, volunteers, pastors, and elders.
  • COLLABORATING WITH MINISTRY STAFF to promote church-wide goals and connect with the broader community, engaging in group discussion and assisting with team events and projects as needed.

Salary: $60K-$89K

Requirements

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE...

  • TRANSFORMED BY FAITH IN CHRIST, holding personal values and convictions aligned with our church’s beliefs concerning the gospel and Christian identity.
  • PASSIONATE ABOUT TEENS and their life experiences, with a natural inclination to understand, connect with, and care for youth.
  • THEOLOGICALLY STRONG, exhibiting aptitude and affinity for connecting theological truths to teen culture in ways that are interesting and relevant to our particular region and time.
  • ENGAGING, ENERGETIC, AND CREATIVE IN THEIR TEACHING on Biblical topics and spiritual development, as well as their approach to ministry as a whole.
  • A SELF-STARTER, who can independently identify ministry goals, create and execute steps towards meeting those goals, and evaluate the success of each step.
  • ADEPT AT MOTIVATING OTHERS, bringing momentum and excitement to the organization by engaging teens, parents, volunteers, and church members.
  • CONTINUING TO LEARN about adolescent development, the culture of Marin County, specific family needs, and approaches to contextualizing and personalizing a gospel-centered ministry.
  • CALLED TO MINISTRY in an intellectual and largely unchurched community.
