Description

New City Presbyterian Church is a Mission Church in the EPC (Evangelical Presbyterian Church) in South Bend, IN, with a gospel-centered vision of what Jesus can do in and for our city through the local church. We love South Bend and its people, we have unique connections to the nearby University of Notre Dame, and we are committed to crossing cultural divides with the good news of the gospel. We have held weekly worship services for the past four years, and we have seen the kind of growth in vision and mission that prompts us to hire a second, full-time pastor to co-lead New City alongside our planting pastor. Given the mission of New City and its urban and university contexts, we need two full-time ministers working as a team.

We seek to hire a full-time generalist pastor who is excited by and committed to New City’s theological vision and mission and who is equipped to serve alongside our planting pastor primarily by providing executive oversight and pastoral care to our congregation. Compensation package includes health, retirement, and continuing education benefits. South Bend is an extremely affordable city (e.g., graduate students regularly buy houses here), and so the starting salary range of $55,000 - $65,000 goes quite a bit further than in many comparably sized cities.

Primary Responsibilities: Because this represents a second full pastor role, we will list the primary responsibilities of the new hire as well as the reconfigured responsibilities of our planting pastor, highlighting differences more than overlap for clarity. Humanly speaking, we have five core areas of pastoral work: (1) outreach and evangelism, (2) teaching and university engagement, (3) member care, (4) preaching and sacraments, and (5) executive oversight. Though we expect some overlap, under this new arrangement, our planting pastor will focus more on (1) outreach and (2) teaching, our new hire will focus more on (5) executive oversight and (3) member care, and both will share (4) pulpit and sacrament responsibilities.
