Description

Worship Arts Coordinator

Part-Time or Full-Time

The position may be full-time or part-time, with the potential to incorporate additional roles based on the candidate’s interests and experience.

Overview

The Worship Arts Coordinator must have a passion for worship as a whole way of life directed toward the triune God and, more specifically, for ushering the Christ Church family into the presence of God as we gather corporately before him. The role and responsibility is to oversee key elements of our worship gatherings under the direction and leadership of the pastors. Christ Church’s style could be characterized as “ancient-future” worship, combining the best elements of the Christian tradition while also embracing modern worship elements. Through the ministry of music, exemplary character, and relational intentionality, the Worship Arts Coordinator will promote a culture of worship in which both the collective church body and its individual members sense the beauty, majesty, and worth of Jesus Christ, offer Spirit-filled and Spirit-led praise and adoration to our heavenly Father, make and renew commitments to Christ and his kingdom, respond to God’s gracious initiative by serving others, and embody a community of reconciliation, care, and joyful harmony.

Necessary Skill Set

With a visible and contagious love for the Lord, the Worship Arts Coordinator must have excellent relational and organizational strengths, as well as musical training and experience (preferably piano plus guitar). The person in this position needs to have the ability to organize and direct worship ministry volunteers and professionals. The Worship Arts Coordinator will lead the congregation in singing with confidence, joy, and a “one voice” unity of faith, hope, and love through heart songs they have come to know and love.

Congregational Worship (40%)

The Worship Arts Coordinator is principally responsible for executing the musical aspect of Christ Church’s worship gatherings. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Core Responsibilities (Expected of all Worship Arts Coordinators):

  • Lead worship ~36-40 Sundays and assist/train a volunteer or guest worship leader ~8-12 Sundays (4 Sundays vacation).
  • Collaborate with pastors to craft services and select songs in alignment with the Reformed liturgy, the Christian Year, and the pastors’ sermon planning.
  • Prepare music, arrangements, and team ensembles for worship services.
  • Recruit and schedule musicians, vocalists and audio/video support for worship services.
  • Plan and execute any mid-week or special services or events that include musical components. For example, 2nd Wednesday Praise & Prayer, All-Church Retreat, Advent/Christmas services, and Lent/Easter (e.g., Ash Wednesday and Holy Week services).

Expanded Responsibilities (Expected of Full-Time Worship Arts Coordinators Only):

  • We encourage our Worship Arts Coordinator to offer ideas, initiatives, programs, events, etc. that would promote the above objectives (e.g., Developing a youth or children’s choir; educating the congregation regarding the history of a particular hymn or the biblical view of music’s role in worship; orchestrating hymn-sings/praise nights).

Volunteer Pipeline and Process (15%)

There should be a clear and open on-ramp for congregants to use their musical gifts, a place where people want to get connected and involved. To that end, a volunteer pipeline will be established for the purpose of recruiting, training, deploying, coaching, and celebrating volunteers.

Core Responsibilities (Expected of all Worship Arts Coordinators):

  • Recruiting: Recruiting is the first stage of the process, including making regular announcements to the congregation and having regular auditions, until there is a full roster (with some youth) and hopefully a waiting list.
  • Training: Volunteers will be trained according to Worship Team guidelines.
  • Deploying: Volunteers will be deployed to serve on the worship team once or twice a month (or more/less at the Worship Arts Coordinator’s discretion).
  • Coaching: Volunteers will be coached with encouragement and constructive feedback.

Expanded Responsibilities (Expected of Full-Time Worship Arts Coordinators Only):

  • Empower: Key volunteers will be developed to not only participate on our worship teams but also lead occasionally.
  • Acknowledgement and Celebration: Volunteers will feel acknowledged and celebrated by means, for example, of an end-of-the-year meal, a party, thank you notes, worship books, etc.

Care and Outreach (10%)

Expanded Responsibilities (Expected of Full-Time Worship Arts Coordinators Only):

  • Invest in the communal life of the church (e.g., community/discipleship groups, etc.)
  • Assist in the spiritual care of our church (e.g., assimilation and discipleship of newcomers, regulars, and members) with a focus on college, young adults, youth, and kids
  • Network and build relationships with local musicians to build our musician pool

Worship Administration (20%)

Core Responsibilities (Expected of all Worship Arts Coordinators):

  • Provide necessary files/text of music selection and collaborate with church staff (Assistant Director of Ministry) for production of liturgy and song sheets for congregational use
  • Manage  the scheduling of all musicians and A/V team members/professionals and any substitutes.
  • Provide leadership to resolve any last-minute problems to ensure a smooth worship experience.
  • Oversee technical and technological aspects of worship services (e.g., online streaming, lyric slides, sermon visuals, podcasts, technicians, sound engineers, A/V Team recruitment and scheduling, etc.) with the support of the Director of Operations.
  • Document and maintain an inventory of worship ministry equipment (AV and instrumental)
  • Manage an annual budget and provide expense management
