Full-Time
Posted: Mar 17, 2026
Application Deadline: Jul 1, 2026
Description
Our two-year pastoral apprenticeship seeks to assist a recent seminary graduate in acquiring a wide range of pastoral skills and experience prior to church planting or solo/staff ministry in an established church. The job will entail shadowing our pastor in many pastoral duties, as well as practicing a broad range of pastoral and leadership skills on his own, including prayer, sermon and lesson preparation, preaching, liturgical crafting, worship leading, evangelism, men's discipleship, organizational leadership, mercy ministry, hospital and nursing home visitation, children and youth ministry leadership, presbytery and general assembly involvement, missions engagement, and preparation for licensure and ordination in the PCA. One distinct advantage to an apprenticeship at a smaller church like ours is the greater opportunity one has for experiencing every type and level of ministry first-hand and developing a close working relationship with our pastor.
Salary: Undisclosed
Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a Christian man who has graduated from college and a confessionally Reformed seminary. We may be open to a candidate who is working on completing his seminary studies on-line. He must have interest in becoming licensed and ordained in the PCA. Character qualities most suitable for this position include humility, teachability, a passion for the centrality of the grace of the gospel, a compassion for the lost and a deep desire to see them converted and integrated into church membership, and an understanding that King Jesus deserves our loyalty and focus above human rulers and political parties.
How to Apply
We are a smallish, hometown, PCA church in a city of 10,000 which serves as a bedroom community for the Wausau-Marathon metropolitan area (200k). Key values for our congregation include close relationships, helping one another, global missions (annual trips to Ethiopia), men's and women's discipleship, and delighting in the gospel as it unfolds in God's big, redemptive Story in the Bible. We are earnestly praying for the Lord to reveal the man he plans to bring us for our next pastoral apprenticeship adventure. Please email me if you are interested and I will send you a fuller description of the position as well as an application.
