Position:

Library Assistant

Start Date:

Summer 2026

Overall Purpose:

To assist the full-time Library staff in providing basic library services to the Library’s patron base and to foster an atmosphere of excellent customer service.

Pay:

$13.75 per hour.

 

Schedule (Summer Semester):

12+ hours per week, 1pm-5pm over the summer.  

Sample Duties:

  • Check books in and out
  • Provide assistance to patrons on how to use the Library, including basic instruction on using the catalog, finding materials, relating policies and procedures, etc.
  • Reshelve books, periodicals, media, etc.
  • Process payments for library fines and fees
  • Opening & closing the Library
  • General operational maintenance (e.g., filling paper in copiers and printers, handling mail, etc.)
  • General operational clean up (e.g., picking up scraps of paper left on carrels, tables, etc.)
  • Record statistics about library use.
  • Aid in projects (e.g., rebarcoding, moving of items in storage)

Salary: Hourly

  • Enrolled student or spouse of an enrolled student

  • Clear communication
  • Follows policy and consistently performs established procedures
  • Alert and observant with a careful attention to detail
  • Physically able to reach objects on shelving at various heights and to lift a box of books
