FPC Youth Director Job Description
Ends: As the Youth Director embraces our vision for “proclaiming Christ’s glory to transform lives”, 7th-12th graders in the FPC community will hear the taught/preached word & experience discipleship modeled through intentional relationship efforts from the Youth Director along with staff helpers and volunteers involved in the FPC Youth ministry.
Means: Ends are achieved predominantly by engaging in the duties & responsibilities of the Youth Director position including, but not limited to: large and small youth group gatherings and events, Sunday school, Sunday evening Youth Group, connecting with students relationally and intentionally throughout the week/weekend, organizing/overseeing mission-oriented, evangelistic and spiritual growth trips for youth, staying connected to youth within the FPC community and cultivating gospel partnerships with parents of involved youth.
Reporting: The Youth Director reports to the Executive Director. The Youth Director will oversee any additional youth staff, interns and volunteers. The Youth Director will work with the Youth Committee.
Structure: The Youth Director will have office and work hours for all Sunday and Wednesday youth activities as needed to achieve ends stated above. Additional work-hours Tuesday – Friday (and various Saturdays) are expected and performed for planning, communication and intentional relationship building and discipleship to youth in both “on” and “off-campus” capacities. (This includes attending sporting events, visiting the youth in their respective schools, taking students to coffee/lunch, etc.) Total estimated hours worked during the week would be 40-50 hours.
Youth Activity Center: The Youth Director is the building captain of the Youth Activity Center (YAC). This property is a major instrument he uses to accomplish much of the ministry to his students. Therefore, it is in his care to oversee and look after the property in such a way as to maximize the ministry that happens through it. He is the building captain and will ensure its overall care, communicating with necessary parties (ie Custodian/Diaconate Property Chair/Executive Director) clearly to achieve this end.
Limitations (limited)
The Youth Director will not:
• allow Youth Activity Center (YAC) to fall into prolonged disrepair
• exceed the approved Youth Ministry budget
• put himself in compromising situations with any youth students or staff helpers
Qualifications
A heart to build an evangelistic relationship with non-believing students
A heart to shepherd believing children to grow in their faith in Jesus
A shared passion for the vision of FPC especially in the area of discipleship
A minimum commitment of five years
A strong belief in our confession of faith (WCF)
The Youth Director and family (if applicable) will be deeply involved in community life at FPC
Valued skills and abilities
FPC values formal theological training
