First Presbyterian Church Baton Rouge (FPC) is pleased to announce an opening for a new Assistant Pastor for Childhood, Youth, and Family Ministry. This position will provide leadership and direction for the FPC So Loved Ministry (birth to preschool), Kingdom Kids Ministry (elementary), and Youth Ministry (middle school and high school). The successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine love and enthusiasm for children and youth, and have a pastor’s heart for their families. This position calls for a combination of skillful communication, organization, reliability, fun energy, and effective teaching to help our kids and families navigate their faith and contemporary culture. Additionally, the Assistant Pastor will lead a team of dedicated staff and volunteers who have a special calling for shepherding our children and youth. Title: Assistant Pastor for Childhood, Youth and Family Ministry
Purpose: To provide leadership and direction for the FPC So Loved Ministry (birth to preschool),
Kingdom Kids Ministry (elementary) and Youth Ministry (middle school and high
school) and associated programs as well as the Childhood and Youth Committees associated
with these vital programs. Additionally, to provide direct supervision of the various staff and
volunteer groups involved in these ministries.
Accountability: To the Session through the Associate Pastor for Discipleship.
Responsibilities:
• Develop programs for parents and families related to Christian nurture in the home and
addressing relevant issues that parents face culturally and socially.
• Engage in pastoral relationships with the families of our children and youth.
• Work cooperatively with the Director of our Children’s Choir program
• Serve as pastoral liaison to our Mother’s Day Out/Pre-School program, working to
support the Director of MDO in fostering engaged relationships between the church
and participants in the MDO program.
• Work with the Associate Pastor and the Ministry Executive in developing the
appropriate departmental budgets and providing oversight through the budge year.
• Serve as one of the church’s pastors, under the leadership of the Senior Pastor,
participating in worship leadership, preaching, pastoral care, staff meetings and
administration.
Personal:
• Maintain good disciplines of personal devotion and Bible study.
• Maintain family responsibilities including vacation and a regular day off.
• Actively develop good habits of physical exercise, nutrition and rest
Relationships: Receive direction from the Associate Pastor for Discipleship and the Ministry
Executive on administrative and budgetary matters. Participate as an active member of our
Program Staff team.
Evaluation: An Annual Performance Evaluation will be conducted by the Associate Pastor and
Ministry Executive for purposes of performance feedback and compensation review and
updates.
Salary: $60K-$89K
