GENERAL SUMMARY:

SSM Health is seeking passionate Mission-driven leaders who want to use their unique skills and talents to help transform health care in the United States and improve the health and well-being of communities.

The SSM Health Administrative Fellowship is a 15-month competitive, paid, early careerist program based in St. Louis, MO. Successful candidates will receive hands-on practical and leadership work experience in a fast-paced, innovative, and dynamic organization committed to ensuring all people have access to high-quality affordable care – and an equal chance to achieve their optimal health. The Administrative Fellow will have opportunities to work on high-profile projects across operations, governance, strategic planning, human resources, care delivery, population health, and community partnerships across SSM Health’s four-state care delivery network.

The SSM Health Fellow will report to SSM Health’s Chief Operations Officer. The fellowship is a rotation-based program guided by a steering committee, to provide continuity as well as broad exposure to a variety of management roles and relationships. 

During each of the program’s rotations, the Fellow will be assigned preceptors for the respective functional area. Preceptors will be executives, administrators, and/or directors, who will oversee the Fellow’s learning and/or project performance. The Fellow will have many opportunities to develop a network of informal mentors through project work, observation, shadowing and leadership development opportunities.

  • Fellows will have a unique opportunity to learn about the structure and operations of an integrated delivery system, experience the unique system and regional cultures, and acquire experience and skills by leading projects in a complex health delivery network.
  • Fellows will rotate and/or have exposure to key SSM Health corporate, hospital and regional departments, including quality/safety, finance, human resources, marketing/communication, mission integration, foundation, clinic operations, population health and other entities like Dean Health Plan and Navitus. They’ll also choose the strategic priority they want to work on to help drive results following SSM Health’s strategic operating model.
  • Fellows will participate in senior operations/clinical team meetings, Continuous Improvement processes and shadow identified leaders to understand day-to-day decision-making processes and workflows which advance system goals and transform practice. 
  • Fellows will be supported and nurtured in their Fellowship by a dedicated team of program mentor(s), who will guide, navigate, help problem solve and support the fellowship for successful outcome. The System VP, Continuous Improvement and System Director, Diversity and Inclusion will co-serve in this role

We invite diverse candidates from strong Masters-level-accredited programs to apply. Individuals should have completed the Master’s degree requirements in one or more of the following fields of study: Healthcare Administration, Health Services Administration, Public health, Business Administration, Law and/or Finance and have at least 1-2 years of work experience in healthcare, including relevant internships experiences.

Administrative Fellow is a full time employee who is participating in a fellowship that provides future healthcare executives with opportunities to gain an in-depth understanding of hospital and clinic based healthcare operations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fellows take part in hands-on, operationally and financially focused projects and participate in various leadership activities that nurture professional growth.
  • Fellows are exposed to high-level strategic planning and other health system functions, including marketing, human resources, and information technology.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
