Description
This position is for work from the end of November 2021 to near the end of March, 2022 in the
Grace & Peace Winter Shelter, a ministry of Grace & Peace Fellowship (PCA) has been providing overnight shelter and basic necessities in the name of Jesus Christ to women in our building every winter since 1986.
Overnight Staff shifts are from 6 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. (usually) one night per week.
The person(s) in this position lead the overnight shelter shifts onsite, including welcoming and overseeing guests; overseeing and helping with hosting; orientation and support for that night's volunteers; food preparation and cleanup; adding to journal/log book nightly; prayer for the shelter night and your own role in it.
The Shelter is slated to open right after Thanksgiving and paid, required training will be on a weekend before Thanksgiving. There may be paid opportunity to assist with some ministry preparation activities before Thanksgiving, as well. Both women and men are invited to apply. We are likely to hire 2-3 people.
Please note: because this location is in St. Louis City (where our church follows in-place mask mandates) and because it includes daily interpersonal contact with people whose contact history may be unknown, preference will be given to those who are willing to wear masks while working and who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Candidate(s) must be:
-committed to Jesus Christ and evangelical Christian beliefs and be active in a local church.
-interested in urban ministry and learning more about working with the poor
-people having a generally calm and friendly demeanor
-able to give a testimony of personal walk with Christ and the reason this gives hope
-available the above times on night(s) scheduled
-strong communicator(s) in both written and verbal English and computer literate, with solid references
-reliable
Pay is per shift ($140) and 5-6 hours sleep are usually possible during shifts.
