In recognition of our community’s need to know and believe in Jesus as Lord, Westchester is pursuing a Pastor of Community Engagement who will have two key aspects to his job. The first is to equip us as a congregation to reach out to our neighbors with the Good News of Jesus, and to help us disciple new believers. The second is to be a pastor to the community. The Pastor of Community Engagement will need to be in the community and in the schools, it is our intention that this man will spend about 50-60% of his work hours either in the community or bringing the community into our building. Our desire is that our community will look to Westchester, and ultimately the Lord for help. It is our prayer that people will come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This position will require creativity, patience, and a bit of an entrepreneurial drive. 1 Timothy 3:1-7 “Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.
5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.”
Matthew 28:16-20 “Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
Ephesians 4:11-13 “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
Colossians 1:28-29 “We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. 29 To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.”
1 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.”
II Timothy 4:5 “As for you, always be soberminded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Colossians 4:5-6 “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best used of time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
