Job Description for Pastor

Description:

Sovereign Grace Reformed Church is a congregation of the Othodox Presbyterian Church.  It seeks a Minister of the Word to lead the congregation and to reach the surrounding community through Reformed preaching, training, evangelism, and leadership.  (Matthew 28:19-20)

Overview:

The Pastor of Sovereign Grace Reformed Church shall joyfully adhere to the orthodox Reformed faith in accordance with the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Book of Church Order of the OPC.  He shall seek the profit of all for whom he labors.  He shall humbly feed the flock of God, set an example of godliness and piety, joyfully exercise oversight of them, bring the gospel of salvation found in Jesus Christ alone to them, encourage them in their devotion to Christ, and lead them by example in outreach, evangelism, and Christian fellowship.  He should be a man with a godly reputation both inside and outside the church.

Job Description:

A.  The Pastor shall preach expository, redemptive-historical, Christ-centered, and gospel-saturated sermons, clearly communicating the whole council of God to all people without distinction.  In his preaching, he must be able to engage his hearers with both the riches of Reformed doctrine and sound and useful application. (Matthew 28:19)

B.  The Pastor shall lead the worship services in accordance with the Regulative Principle.

C.  The Pastor shall supervise and assist when necessary at the mid-week Bible study.

D.  The Pastor shall shepherd the flock by ministering to the needs of the congregation.

E.  The Pastor shall minister to the poor, the sick, the afflicted, and the dying to make known the gospel to all men. (Matthew 25:39-40; James 1:25; Hebrews 13:3)

F.  The Pastor shall superintend Sunday School, discipleship, leadership training, evangelism, and outreach.

G.  The Pastor shall model and encourage the congregation in healthy biblical fellowship and hospitality. (Hebrews 13:2; I Peter 4:9; Romans 12:13)

H.  The Pastor shall be devoted to Christ, with a humble and teachable spirit.

I.  The Pastor shall be a man who loves his wife and family (if applicable).

J.  The Pastor shall manifest a sincere love for Christ's sheep and a burden for the lost.

K.  The Pastor shall chair the session.

L.  The Pastor shall be committed to the broader church, especially in his attendance to and work for the Midwest Presbytery of the OPC.
